The City of Timmins 2025 Taxation Budget was approved by City Council on January 28, 2025.
Property taxes are an important revenue for the City. When combined with program fees, user fees, facility rentals, and additional funding sources, they make up the available money (revenue) coming into the City that is then spent on the services, infrastructure, programs, and projects that you rely on daily.
The City also looks at long-term planning and investment to meet the needs of the community and encourage future growth. All of this is summarized in the annual municipal budget, an itemized plan for the revenue coming in and the expenditures going out.
As a resident, the budget impacts you every day. That is why your feedback is important. When you provide input on items like City services, value for your tax dollar, and investment in capital projects, you are helping to ensure transparency and inform decision-making.

- City Council has approved the 2025 Taxation Budget. This is the City's portion of the full municipal budget, and outlines how the City will collect, spend, and invest funds to cover operating costs and direct investment in capital. The approved Taxation Budget will be combined with approved budgets from the City's Agencies, Boards, and Commissions (ABCs), MPAC property assessments, and provincial education rates to arrive at the final property tax rate for 2025. Council is expected to approve the 2025 tax rates by April.
- City Council has approved the 2025 Water and Wastewater rates with an annual increase of 5.49%. The increase follows the City’s 10-year financial plan with the addition of a 1% capital levy that will help the City invest more in necessary water and wastewater capital projects. The average 5 room home will pay $26 more for water, $37 more for wastewater per year, plus a $14.79 levy payment, for a total of $77.79 for municipal service. The same household will pay approximately $6.50 more per month on their utility bill compared to last year.
