Recycling prevents excess materials from going to the landfill, prolonging the life of the landfill and helping protect the environment. It requires far less energy to recycle and reuse, than using raw materials to make something new.

As of January 1, 2025, Circular Materials became responsible for the collection of blue box materials from homes and residential buildings across Timmins and all of Ontario, including the residential portion of mixed commercial and residential properties.

What happens to your Blue Box materials?

A recycling truck empties your blue box and takes your recyclables to a special “recovery” facility. At the “recovery” facility, both people and machines sort through the recyclable materials. Once the materials have been separated, they are bundled and shipped to manufacturing companies around the world that reprocess the recyclable material to make many kinds of new products.

Blue Box Transition:

All municipalities in Ontario are transitioning their Blue Box Program to a new collection model. Under the new model, the companies that produce blue box materials will be required to fully fund and operate the recycling system.

In Timmins, the transition to a new Blue Box collector happened on January 1, 2025. As of January 1, 2025, the approved common collection system administrator will be a non-profit company called Circular Materials. Circular Materials will be responsible for the collection of Blue Box materials from homes and residential buildings in Timmins.

Deloro Landfill Site – Recycling Depot Information:

As per the City of Timmins’ Blue Box Recycling Depot Agreement with Circular Materials, the Deloro Landfill Site offers a free, dedicated recycling depot at the entrance of the site exclusively for residential users. In accordance with Ontario’s Blue Box Regulation (O. Reg. 391/21), only eligible sources, which include residents, are permitted to use this depot. For this reason, the recycling area is restricted to residential use only.

For industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) users, separate designated recycling bins are located beyond the gatehouse. Please note that tipping fees apply to all ICI loads.

Quick Tips:

Keep materials loose inside your recycling cart.
Break down Styrofoam and flatten carboard boxes.
Rinse out all food containers.
Do not bag recycling products.

Definitions:

SOILED: to make unclean, dirty, or filthy, especially on the surface, a spot, mark or strain, dirty. If enough soiled material makes its way into a recycling container the load is considered to be contaminated and will be discarded and sent to the landfill. Taking a few moments to make sure material is unsoiled and dry ensures that all material will be able to be recycled.
