The City of Timmins Cycling Committee continues to strive to make the City of Timmins a bicycle friendly community.

The Committee has identified two areas that require attention:

Travel from the end of the cycling lanes at Theriault and Vimy to the start of the trail head at the Mountjoy Historical Park for the Bridge to Bridge trail. The closure of the privately-owned trail located off of Gillies Street which connected to the Mattagami bridge, has necessitated discussion and review of the safest route
for cyclists.
Riverside Drive (Government Road to Shirley Street). With a lack of cycling facilities incorporated into the reconstruction of Riverside
Drive, the committee has identified the new curb and sidewalk that is being constructed in this area for pedestrian traffic.

Upon review by members of the Cycling Committee, the safest options at this time is to allow travel on the sidewalks in the above-noted areas.

Allowing cyclists to travel on the sidewalk for the above-noted sections will support the Cycling Committees responsibility to enhance safety to cyclists.

Request from the Cycling Committee to amend the Traffic By- Law to allow cycling on the following sidewalks:

Theriault Blvd. ( west side) south of Vimy Street to Avenue Road
Algonquin Blvd. ( north side) from Avenue Road to the most easterly portion of Riverside Drive ( Mattagami Heights trail head, Mountjoy Historical Conservation Area— 600 Riverside Drive)
Riverside Drive ( north side) from Shirley Street to Government Road north/ south
